The establishment of the hustlersfund was received with a significant amount of financial support from a variety of legislators as well as prominent figures in the business. Together with his counterpart, Rigathi Gachagua, President William Ruto served as the event’s driving force. The two individuals did not hold back when it came to voicing their approval of the Kenya Kwanza bottom-up economic model. This approach gives people at the very bottom of the food chain, often known as hustlers, more influence.
A vendor selling smoky sausages was taken aback when the Chief Executive Officer of Safaricom offered to gift the vendor and the vendor’s mother Ksh 100,000 each in an effort to support their business. The Chief Executive Officer claimed he loved the sausages and urged the small-scale trader to assist other hustlers. The vendor was amazed.
nimependa sausage yako sana. Nimefurahi sana. I will give you and your mum ksh100,000 ununue wheelbarrows zingine na hizi vitu za kuuza sausage. You can even help your fellow hustlers.
stated Peter Ndegwa the Safaricom CEO.
Social media users responded to the news in different ways, some of whom praised the CEO. There were 600 loan requests per second as soon as the hustling fund was announced, according to sources. Kenyans borrowed Ksh 408.5 million in less than a day, and more than a million people signed up for the hustling fund. After receiving at least 500–700 ksh, other people have also spoken out and questioned how that sum will benefit them.
Ruto stated that the hustling fund must be repaid after two weeks and that there will be consequences for late payments. The credit score of the general people will rise if they make timely payments. Azimio and his allies have also expressed worries about the funding, with some opposing the government’s decision to impose interest fees or request that Kenyans pay back the loans.
