After Twitter CEO Elon Musk warned staff to prepare for long hours and high intensity, the social media giant has temporarily shut down its headquarters until November 21. In a statement to the company’s employees, they were instructed to adhere to the organization’s policies and refrain from sharing any information with the public or the media.
According to BBC-affiliated sources, an unnamed Twitter employee stated that it was obvious that several employees would leave the organization sooner or later, especially following Musk’s stringent requirements.
,’I think when the dust clears today, there’s probably going to be less than 2,000 people left. The manager of that team, his manager was terminated. And then that manager’s manager was terminated. The person above that was one of the execs terminated on the first day. So there’s nobody left in that chain of command.” stated the source.
The message addressed to twitter employees read,
Hi, effectively immediately, we are temporarily closing our office buildings and all badge access will be suspended. Offices will re-open on Monday 21st. Thank you for your flexibility. Please continue to comply with policy by refraining from discussing confidential company information on social media, with the press or elsewhere. We look forward to working with you on Twitters exciting future.’
Twitter filed a formal lawsuit against Musk in the Delaware Chancery Court on July 12, 2022, alleging that he had broken the terms of a contractual contract to buy the company. Musk made a comeback in October 2022, offering to buy Twitter for $54.20 a share. On October 27, the acquisition was formally concluded. Top Twitter executives were immediately let go by Musk, including CEO Parag Agrawal, whom he later replaced. He swiftly implemented a $8 monthly fee for a verification icon and let go a sizable chunk of the company’s workforce.
