Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has rubbed shoulders with Ukambani residents the wrong way after suggesting that for the Kamba community to receive government support, they must first of all pledge allegiance to the Kenya Kwanza government.
While speaking on 23rd October during a thanksgiving prayer service in Kalonzo’s Ukambani stronghold, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua threw jabs at Kalonzo Musyoka over his continued support for the opposition leader Raila Odinga.
The Deputy President suggested that it was high time that Ukambani leaders unite and pledge allegiance to the Kenya Kwanza government in order to have their problems solved by Ruto’s government.
If Kalonzo Musyoka is lost in Azimio Malombe and Wavinya Ndeti should lead kambas into the government, remember this area has serious water and other problems, the kambas should and must be in government, Rigathi said.
The Deputy President also refuted claims of an ongoing rivalry between the Ukambani Kingpin Kalonzo Musyoka and the Kenya Kwanza government, adding that Ruto’s government has no problem with Kalonzo Musyoka. He also stated that Ruto’s government has been waiting for the wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka to come on board.
We have no problem with Kalonzo we are waiting for him. It is you who will decide what you want with him because we don’t understand him, he stated.
It shall be recalled that, during the general elections on August 9th, 2022, the Azimio Coalition received a hefty number of votes from the Kamba community Compared to the Kenya Kwanza Coalition. Kalonzo Musyoka secured a million votes for Raila Odinga from Ukambani whereas a quarter million people voted for William Ruto in the same region.
However, the Deputy President’s remarks were received with lots of criticism as a section of Kenyans accused the second in command of selling blackmail to the Kamba community. See some of the reactions below.
