The office of the Directorate Of Criminal Investigations will have a new but familiar face. Amin Mohammed Ibrahim will be the country’s new DCI as he has took the oath of office.
Chief Justice Martha Koome Presided the swearing in as Amin Mohammed replaces George Kinoti.
Amin has been in the police service for 33 years now and has served in various capacities thus experience playing a part in his appointment. His track record shows that he has been a competent officer spearheading various tasks.
In 2012 he led the investigations after the then deputy Chief Justice Nancy Baraza threatened a citizen, he was also crucial in ensuring that his roles were executed during his tenure as the regional director for the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in North Eastern.
DCI command spreads out from the Headquarters to regions, counties, sub-counties, and DCI offices in their service provision. At the regional level, there are Regional Criminal Investigations Officers (RCIOs) who are directly responsible to the Director for the effective administration of their respective regions.
Among the functions of the DCI include To collect and provide criminal intelligence; To undertake investigations on serious crimes including homicide, narcotics crimes, human trafficking, money laundering, terrorism, economic crimes, piracy, organized crimes, and cybercrime, among others; To maintain law and order; To detect and prevent crimes; To apprehend offenders;
And To maintain criminal records.
Mohammed takes over from George Kinoti who served under the Uhuru Kenyatta tenure.
