President William Ruto hosted a thanksgiving service at Statehouse, hours after the head of State landed in Nairobi. The president was away to the United Kingdom and later travelled to the United States, where he addressed the 77th United Nations General Assembly.
The event held at Statehouse was attended by DP Rigathi Gachagua and other top government officials. The event is undoubtedly the first to be held since the president was handed over the instruments of power on September 13.
Earlier on Sartuday, Ruto directed his Deputy to convene a meeting with the County Government officials. Ruto added that the meeting would be important in discussing the adverse effects of drought that has affected over 20 counties.
Ruto took to Twitter and stated, “Drought has since put to risk over three million Kenyans.” Ruto added, “My deputy @rigathi will, Monday, convene a meeting of GoK involving county leaders/officials to harmonise urgent interventions to stem the severely adverse effects of ravaging drought in almost 20 counties that is putting about 3 million people at great risk.”
The Thanksgiving ceremony held at Statehouse will be one of its kind, recalling Uhuru’s farewell ceremony that was held before Ruto’s inauguration.
The president has promised his commitment in lowering the production of necessities including making Agriculture inputs prices cheaper to lower the cost of farming. Earlier on, DP Rigathi Gachagua stated that fertiliser prices would go lower to Ksh 3500 as the short rain season approaches.
