Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has urged Kenyans to remain patient as the Kenya Kwanza government mitigates through the economic crisis being witnessed in the country.
The second-in-command maintained that their government inherited a dilapidated economy, and that it would take sometime before they can control the whole situation. Gachagua urged Kenyans to give them sometime, a period he predicted to be three months.
While speaking on NTV, Gachagua stated, “The situation is very bad, there is no money in the Treasury, and the little that we are collecting goes to salaries and you have to keep the country going so we need to do a lot to boost production.”
He stated that the government was prioritising agriculture as a remedy for economic recovery, adding that it would help at lowering the cost of living. It shall be recalled that President Ruto declined subsiding all consumables.
Gachagua stated that things wouldn’t happened on a fortnight, adding that things will begin to pick up after three months. He stated, “We must spend time, effort and money on agriculture. That’s the way to go and I can tell Kenyans that in the next two or three months they are going to start seeing things picking up.”
He revealed that the Executive had spoken with KRA on how to change the tax regimes in the country. He added, “We have been talking to KRA and we have told them that we need to change our tax regimes. Progressively we are going to have an increase in revenue collection, we are going to increase production of our agricultural commodities.” What are your thoughts on this story?
