During a campaign rally in Mombasa, Raila Odinga has expressed his confidence the that the country’s Supreme Court will declare him president and Martha Karua deputy president.
Raila’s speech comes a few days after Azimio La Umoja filed a petition challenging the outcome of the election where William Ruto and Rigathi Gachagua were declared the winners by Wafula Chebukati. Mr. Odinga was in Mombasa where he was drumming support for the coalition’s Abdulswamad Nassir’s gubernatorial bid.
Raila Odinga explained the impossibility of another election as the court prepares to issue a ruling on September 5th. Raila argued that his team will expose serious malpractices that were witnessed in the election that intentionally robbed him the victory.
Raila Odinga went ahead and urged the IEBC chairman Mr. Wafula Chebukati to disqualify himself from leading the commission and let his Deputy Cherera oversee the elections in Kakamega and Mombasa counties.
This comes at a time when the presidential election petition is ongoing in court. Mr. Odinga and the coalition’s leaders argued that IEBC had endorsed William Ruto as their preferred candidate, adding that the IEBC boss committed a crime.
However, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has argued that Mr. Wafula Chebukati is the Presidential returning officer hence Raila’s remarks are null. Kenya Kwanza coalition has set up a legal team involving the former Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana. The legal team will champion for Kenya Kwanza’s victory in court.
