Embu Jubilee Gubernatorial Candidate Decamps To Ruto’s UDA

by Jayden Musembi

The Jubilee Party’s gubernatorial candidate in Embu has joined William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance party. Emilio Kathuri made a decision to decamp to the Kenya Kwanza coalition as reported by DP Ruto on his Twitter page.

The Deputy president made the announcement on Friday, adding that another Jubilee candidate eying for the Woman Representative Seat in Embu also ditched the Azimio Alliance to join UDA.

The Deputy President stated, “The Hustler Nation wave is real! Embu Jubilee governor candidate Emilio Kathuri has quit the race and now supports UDA’s Cecily Mbarire. Susan Nyaga (Jubilee) has also abandoned her quest for Women Rep seat in favour of Pamela Njoki.”

This shift comes with just a few days remaining to the election. The DP had previously explained that there is a plot by the government to rig the August 9th General election. DP Ruto argued that the government is planning to cause power interference in some areas.

However, the Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i debunked Ruto’s claims, adding that the government is committed to ensuring that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission body is supported to deliver a free, fair and credible election.

He stated, “People forget that we sit at the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) as a country. We are very respected at ITU. Kenya has taken its place of pride in the ICT sector globally. How would we result to doing such petty things like shut the internet?” What are your thoughts on this story? Kindly share your insights down below.
