Azimio flag-bearer Raila Odinga’s secretariat spokesperson Professor Makau Mutua has announced that Raila Odinga will not share a debate podium with his close opponent William Ruto.
The secretariat stated that Raila Odinga’s involvement in a debate with Ruto will be an abuse to Kenya’s electorate and voter intelligence, adding that the Kenya Kwanza presidential candidate is desperate for power.
He claimed that the decision would be a bad idea, adding that Ruto is a leader who is ready to say anything just to seek power. Professor Makau Mutua claimed that the Deputy president is desperate for power, hence the reason why his crew has requested the debate organisers not to focus their questions on corruption, integrity, ethics and governance.
According to the Azimio crew, these are the basic quality factors that are lacking and affecting Kenya. Makau claimed that those key elements are at the centre of the Azimio campaign, as they seek to fight those challenges when they arise to power after the August General election.
In addition, the secretariat stated that since those key points are excluded in the debate questions, Raila Odinga would not engage in a debate with someone who lacks common decency. Mr Odinga will hold an adjacent televised debate with his running mate Martha Karua at Nairobi’s Town Hall.
On Thursday, the Kenya Kwanza team requested the debate organisers of the time limits that would be allocated to the questions set be asked on Tuesday’s debate. What are your thoughts about this story? Kindly share your insights down below.
