In a recent interview with Lynn Ngugi, Idah opened up on the hell of a marriage she was in at the tender age of 21.
She was at the peak of her acting career when she decided to get married to her ex husband who was also a youth pastor and was way older at the time, 28.
Idah puts it that pressure from the church lured her into the rush decision to get married so as do things the right way as the church dictates.
“….I knew mwenye unadate ndio utaoa..kanisa inatufunza ivo ….There is pressure in the church unaulizwa we utaolewa lini …”
Idah puts it that looking back, there was really no love between them , they were only bounded by trauma in their lives growing up.
“…..at the time I’d say I was in love but looking back now with all the things I know now , honestly I think we had trauma bonding . He would tell me how his dad was abusive, it was very graphic and I’d tell him my dad was abusive too and had a trauma bond…”
Additionally, Idah revealed that the man would badly beat her up and he would afterwards undress her and have his way with her sexually.
“……that man used to undress me after beating me ….I was scared to tell people because ukisema oh alinirape in marriage unashangaa how unaulizwa aje na ni bwana yako …..”
She went ahead to express her disappointment at the church because at the time she needed help the most they didn’t offer a helping hand. She stated that the pastor that officiated their marriage told her that the man had every right to hit her when she provoked him. Such a shame!
“……we went to the same pastor akasema if you provoke him, he has every right to hit you ..”
