by Chief Okuzo

Masturbation has been one of the most used method of sexual satisfaction. while some religions considered it as a sin, others considered it as a religious rite that was supposed to be practiced annually.

Masturbation was considered as a sacred act and widely practiced by the Egyptians in ancient days. According to Egyptian believes, the universe came to existence after their god atum ejaculated it to existence.

How the creation of the world existed

Atum was surrounded by nothingness and he felt lonely at the same time. it Is said that atum became sexually aroused and therefore he decided to sexually satisfy himself by masturbating. It was believed that his ejaculation formed the first twin gods (tefnun and shu) .As a result, the Egyptian adopted the act of masturbating annually so as to honour atum.

They believed that atum would be pleased anytime they performed the ritual, so they did it annually along river Nile. It was also believed that the flow of river Nile was related to the amount of ejaculation that atum released.

How the rite was carried out in Egypt

The pharaohs and other men used to gather along river Nile annually during the feast of nim( the celebration of Pharaoh’s reign). They would then take off their robes at the shore of the river and begin to masturbate, other men would then join them and perform the ‘holy act’. As they continued to pleasure themselves, they were Instructed to release their semens into the River so as to attract more blessing over the year and get plenty of harvest from their farms.
