For purportedly declaring that the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) should close down sprouting churches that are governed by incompetent theologians, Ida came under fire from the public.

“Ida did not suggest that the National Council of Churches (NCCK) disband churches that are managed by unqualified preachers. She just insisted on preachers being trained in order to encourage better ministerial delivery of the word of God “Otieno, the Press Secretary for Mama Ida, has responded against the accusation.
The accusation against Ida comes only days after Deputy President William Ruto said that he had ceased friendship with Raila Odinga because he does not love God.
Mama Ida’s comment has created a debate among netizens, with some claiming that the remark from Raila’s wife is sufficient proof of Ruto’s statements concerning Raila and the Church.
Did I see Ida Odinga rubishing small churches? The bible talks about "where 2 or 3 are gathered, God is PRESENT". The husband is busy creating BASKET parties everywhere, doesn't see a problem with that, but 'church-bashing' is her agenda. Heshima mama! Keep off church matters.

However, other netizens have concurred with Ida, arguing that the church should be controlled in Kenya in the same manner that it is in countries such as Rwanda.
I stand with Mama Ida's earlier statement, but I respect her right to withdraw it. You see, parents are passing through hell on account of their children being lured into devil worship by these churches. We should be bold and go the Rwanda way.
